Sirje Okas Ainso: “Woman. Confident and Beautiful”

In addition to her long-standing artistic career, Sirje Okas Ainso has devoted herself to preserving and promoting Estonian history. She is the author of “The Story of BATUN”, a book that tells the story of the Baltic Appeal to the United Nations (BATUN) and the persistent efforts of Baltic Americans to support the restoration of the independence of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania through international advocacy.

In recognition of her significant contribution to preserving Estonia’s historical legacy and national continuity, Sirje Okas Ainso was awarded the Jaan Poska Medal in 2023. The award honors her dedicated work as an active member of BATUN and her outstanding contribution to upholding the principles of the Treaty of Tartu and advancing the cause of Estonia’s freedom while in exile.

Sirje Okas Ainso is an inspiring artist for whom art is both a way of life and a means of self-expression. Her deep commitment to preserving Estonia’s cultural heritage and history is reflected not only in her artistic work but also in her lifelong civic engagement.
