WHAT’S ON

From 8.09.2025 to 20.09.2025, the gallery hosts Estonian Leather Artists’ Association exhibition “Estonian Poetry in Estonian Bindings”

This exhibition dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Estonian printing aims to provide an overview of our native language poetry, from Kristjan Jaag and Koidula to the current jumble of all possibilities, hidden in an artistic binding.

The principle of compiling the exhibition was to bring together the fresh bookbinding work of our leather artists, created especially for this exhibition. Thus, the bookbinding harvest is not a random catch in the gallery, but a large part of the books to be bound were given to the artists for this purpose, in order to ensure a more or less uniform overall picture covering different eras. In advance, poets were approached through the Writers’ Union with a request to donate their poetry collections for our undertaking. Many thanks to them! The selfless contribution of the Estonian Library was also invaluable, especially in the acquisition of poetry collections published in exile, as well as between the two wars and during the Soviet era. Many volumes also come from the artists’ personal libraries.

Over 120 works by 95 Estonian poets are on display, created by the hands and minds of 32 artists.
